Recently I saw a post talking about male suicide, the point of which was, “men only commit suicidal because they can’t control women” or something. But like, it hurt me personally, because my cousin suffered from honest-to-goodness depression since he was 8, and committed suicide. That post opened up some old wounds.
But it’s so typical, sadly, and genuinely sexist, that this site has to minimize actual mental illness to make a point, however valid it might be.
I'm so sorry for your loss dear. I also want to point out that "men only commit suicide because they can't control women" (or any deplorable message along those lines) is neither a valid or true statement. It's a hurtful lie that comes from hatred and should not even be entertained. I hope you're doing okay anon. Have a hopefully warm and fuzzy day. (ノ´ヮ`)ノ*: ・゚

I also want to take this opportunity to say that suicide is never the fault of the individual suffering through suicidal thoughts or ideation. The dramatic difference concerning suicide observed between the sexes is an extremely serious matter that requires serious thought and solutions. For my fellas out there who are going through it, it's rough and it's difficult, but I want you to remember that you matter. You are more precious than anyone can put into words. If you need a sign not to do it today, this is it.
You matter. Your mental, emotional, and physical health matters. Your existence matters.

I know what you mean :/ People will get outraged if someone criticises the way a female actor looks shirtless but those same people almost always turn around and make fun of the male actors and the way they look shirtless. Men are expected to take off their shirt in media whether they like it or not and get jokes made about them. People don't seem to understand that it can have a huge impact on them. Everytime I see someone pointing out the way a male actor looks it makes me feel icky
Yup, exactly.
Like, I'm going to use an example.
In the first Captain America, Chris Evans had that shirtless scene, and Peggy's actress literally touched his naked chest without it being scripted because "She couldn't control herself" or whatever.
That shouldn't be acceptable. At all.
But to some people it is, only because he's a man and he should be fine with it.
I always worry about what these men are thinking, because there's men who literally almost DIE because they dehydrate themselves so much to their muscles show well on camera.
It's horrible, and should be talked about more tbh.

Gentle reminder to tell the men in your life that they're handsome. That they don't have to live up to a certain image, that they are cute and desirable, just as they are!

So I find men are being treated like shot at times. I don't think it is fair. There are men that are abused by women. But they don't say anything because it's not socially acceptable. Not all women are victims. Not all men are aggressors. I think men deserve the same voice as women. Many suffer in silence.

I personally think that if society rewarded men for being loving, kind, nurturing and gentle rather than called them pansies, f*gs or automatically assumed they were gay, the concept of shitty fathers wouldn’t be so common.

Why aren't we talking about how even though women's suicide rates are rising they're only touching the LOWEST rate of suicide for men. Why aren't we talking about how men's suicides are slowly climbing higher and higher, why are we only focusing on women? Both rates should be prioritized and it's unfair that only women are being talked about. If I committed suicide, I'd literally only be a statistic and nothing more.

Tumblr has turned feminism into such a fucking joke it makes me sick. The whole “All men are scum/rapists/abusers/sexist/womenizers” needs to STOP.
Women who call themselves feminists yet still use their “freedom of speech” to make men feel inferior and make them out to be worthless need to stop.
40% of men are victims of domestic abuse. 2.78 million men in the U.S. alone have been victims of sexual assualt. Women are NOT the only victims here. This is not a women’s issue, it is a human rights issue. Feminism is a fucking joke turned around to make men the villains. Just because they are men does not make them immune to this kind of treatment.
The fact that many feminists don’t understand what feminism really stands for makes me furious. They use it to their own advantage to treat men like garbage, when it should be about equality.

Men Matter: Boys Are People
I'm easing back into reading some feminist blogs, and one of my favorite feminist bloggers, Jill of Feministe, has a great post up today where she reflects on a new study that shows that (gasp!) adolescent boys think of adolescent girls as more than just sex objects. My favorite part of Jill's analysis:
And this is another “thank feminism” moment. The idea that boys just want sex (and girls don’t) is at its heart conservative and essentialist — and it’s a stereotype that lays the groundwork for requirements of “femininity” that inevitably involve refusing sex until a big fat diamond enters the picture, and bartering virginity for financial and social security. It’s not feminists who argue that boys are mindless animals only interested in sex; no, that argument comes from your anti-feminist social conservatives, who manage to inject it into abstinence-only sex education...

Just learnt that the HPV vaccination can potentially save male lives as well as women's. It's available for free for both men in Women in many western countries such as the USA, but not in my country of Great Britain. Time for that to change!
